Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Executive Director of PBRM Patrick Sullivan, Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood, School Committeewoman Maria Perez, State Senator Adam Gomez, and other city and state officials joined with Nancy Lieberman Charities Founder and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman, President of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (BHOF) John Doleva, Springfield College President Dr. Mary-Beth Cooper and the Springfield College Girls Basketball Team, representatives from New North Citizens Council and members of the community for a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of the Dream Court at Calhoun Park.

Nancy Lieberman Charities in partnership with Sport Court has teamed with the City of Springfield, Springfield Parks Department, Springfield Police Department and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame to open a Dream Court in the North End at Calhoun Park.  Dream Courts are top-quality, multipurpose play spaces built in underserved communities so children have a safe area to shoot hoops, socialize and learn about teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Mayor Sarno states, “I am so very appreciated of Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman and her team for their continued generosity and commitment to the City of Springfield.  This is the second ‘Dream Court’ the Nancy Lieberman Charities in partnership with Sport Court has installed in the city, the first being at our beloved Adams Park.  Our Parks and Police Departments are looking forward to working with our community and using this court for the benefit of our youth.  Special shout out to Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame President John Doleva for partnering with us on this great community initiative.  Nancy Lieberman and I firmly believe that sports and the teamwork it brings is a major positive factor in bringing us all together as one in a mutually respectful way.”

Nancy Lieberman stated, "It's awesome to see our 2nd Dream Court in Springfield, the birthplace of basketball. To partner with Mayor Sarno, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the entire community shows the power of teamwork. We are thankful to have this opportunity for a community that changed my career."

State Senator Adam Gomez said, "The work done by the Nancy Lieberman Foundation Dream Courts program to bring a fully functioning and up-to-date court to our city's youth is absolutely outstanding. Springfield is the birthplace of basketball, and many youths have found an outlet through the game. Research has proven that children involved in sports have higher grades, are less likely to drop out of school, and have reduced truancy and lower crime rates. Thank you to Nancy Lieberman and her organization for providing a place for youth in Springfield to practice and play!"
