City of Springfield Raises International Tribal Native American Flag

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined with Gentle Running Deer and members of the International Tribal Native American Community to raise the Native American Flag at City Hall. Mayor Sarno presented a proclamation declaring Friday, August 20, 2021 as "Native American Inter-Tribal Council of Western Massachusetts Day" in the City of Springfield

Mayor Sarno states, "It’s always important that we honor our Native Americans for not only their legacy, but also, what they continue to do for our Springfield community.  I want to thank Gentle Running Deer and the Native American Inter-Tribal Council.  They tirelessly work and serve our community by educating our children, donating clothes to the homeless and representing Springfield and Western Massachusetts when attending dedications, meetings, gatherings and conferences along the east coast.  As such, it is important to recognize and acknowledge the many contributions the Native American Community have made to the City of Springfield, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and to the United States of America.”
