Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and City Council President Marcus Williams proudly announce that the City of Springfield has sworn in the City’s first Latina City Clerk Gladys Oyola. Oyola was sworn in by Armando Feliciano, Chairperson for the Springfield Redevelopment Authority today in the City Council Chamber.
Previously, Oyola had served as Election Commissioner and Deputy City Clerk since 2010.
Mayor Sarno stated, “I want to again congratulate our City’s first Latina City Clerk Gladys Oyola. This is a natural progression for Gladys and I can think of no one better suited for the job. She is a dedicated and proven public servant and professional. Driven by customer service and compassion. I am looking forward to elevating Gladys to cabinet head status to oversee not only our Elections and City Clerk departments but also our 311 Customer Service Center. Thus becoming the first ever in the City’s history to serve in such a capacity. I also want to thank Council President Marcus Williams and all of the City Councilors for doing their due diligence on my nomination and voting unanimously in support and to confirm Gladys.”
City Council President Williams stated, “Congratulations to our new and first Latina City Clerk Gladys Oyola. On behalf of the City Council we are proud to appoint you and we have the full confidence in your abilities to serve our residents and business community. Your professionalism, dedication, commitment, and passion for public service truly showed. You are the best candidate for the job and the City Council is looking forward to working with you in this new capacity.”
City Clerk Oyola stated, “I am very appreciative of Mayor Sarno for nominating me and I want to thank the City Council for their support and vote of confidence. Having worked in state and municipal government for the past 25 years has been rewarding, and has allowed me the opportunity to make an impact on the city I love. I am looking forward to serving the residents and business community of the City of Springfield in this new capacity as City Clerk.”
In attendance for today's ceremony were State Senator Adam Gomez, State Representative Orlando Ramos, Ward 1 City Councilor Gumersindo Gomez, Register of Deeds Cheryl Coakley-Rivera, School Committeewoman Maria Perez, Springfield Housing Authority Director Denise Jordan, city department heads and employees and many family, friends and supporters of Madame Clerk Oyola.
