Mayor Sarno, Congressman Neal, and City and State Officials Joined Together for the Grand Opening Ceremony of the Hispanic American Library at Historic Union Station

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Congressman Richard E. Neal, and city and state officials joined with the Springfield Redevelopment Authority (SRA) at Union Station for the grand opening of the Hispanic American Library. This new location for the Hispanic American Library will provide cultural education, humanities, and events and activities that promote the vitality of the Hispanic community and is committed to increasing and enhancing literacy through diverse cultural programs focusing on the achievements and accomplishments of Latin Americans.

Those in attendance included:  Executive Director of the Hispanic American Library Juan R. Falcon, State Senator Adam Gomez, State Representatives Carlos Gonzalez and Brian Ashe, City Councilors Victor Davila, Gumersindo Gomez, Melvin Edwards, Justin Hurst, Jesse Lederman, and Tracye Whitfield, School Committeewoman Maria Perez, SRA Director Christopher Moskal, SRA Deputy Director Amanda Pham, SRA Board Chairman Armando Feliciano, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Consumer Information Milagros Johnson, City Clerk Gladys Oyola, Mayoral Aide Minivera Marrero, and representatives and officials from numerous organizations.  

Mayor Sarno stated, “I want to thank Executive Director Juan Reyes Falcon and his team with the Hispanic American Library and everyone at the SRA for their continued partnership and commitment to opening this much-need space for our Hispanic American Library.  This location will greatly enhance and complement the overall services and amenities at our beloved Union Station.  I am looking forward to seeing this dream and vision come together.”
