Mayor Sarno stated, “I want to thank HHS Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris for her unyielding efforts in partnering with our community stakeholders in standing up these neighborhood vaccination sites.  These neighborhood vaccination sites continue my administration’s commitment to making the COVID-19 vaccine as readily available to our residents as possible.  Helen and her staff have been strong advocates for our residents, especially for our most vulnerable and underserved populations.  There is no excuse for not getting vaccinated.”

HHS Commissioner Caulton-Harris added, “To continue to successfully mitigate the community spread of this COVID-19 Coronavirus it is critical that we work collaboratively to meet the public health needs of our residents, especially those who historically have been underserved and marginalized.  Standing up these neighborhood vaccination sites has been a strategic initiative to get the vaccine out into our community.  These neighborhood vaccination sites are key to get shots into arms and to reach our residents who may not be able to travel to the mass vaccination site at the Eastfield Mall.”

State Representative Williams stated, “I want to applaud the dynamic duo of Mayor Sarno and HHS Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris who have been at the forefront of working to defeat this COVID-19 pandemic here in Springfield.  Thanks to the partnership between the Commonwealth, City of Springfield, Dr. Douglas of Curative, Executive Director Tom Kegelman and Home City Housing, the JC Williams Community Center, and all of our community partners, these local neighborhood vaccine sites will provide shots in the arms for our residents, especially those who historically have been underserved.”

“We thank Mayor Sarno, Health Commissioner Caulton-Harris, Representative Williams, Governor Baker, the Bay Area Resident Resource Center, and Springfield community leaders for including Curative in this combined effort to ensure racial and economic equity in the vaccination process,” said Dr. Sly Douglas, Northeast regional lead for Curative. “Through our partnership with the City of Springfield and the Commonwealth, we will continue our commitment in standing up our vaccination site and look forward to expanding our hours of operations so that everyone can receive their vaccine be it at our Eastfield Mall mass vaccination site or at one of the many neighborhood community sites.”

Also in attendance were Executive Director of Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management Patrick Sullivan, Community Police Hearing Board Commissioner Robert ‘Cee’ Jackson, HHS Director of Operations for the Office of Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Tony Pettaway, HHS RN Anne Snow, and community advocates Ethel and Richard Griffin.
