Mayor Sarno Thanks the Smith Family for Generous Sneaker Give Away at Brightwood Elementary School

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined today with Brightwood Elementary School Principal Jose Escribano, Brightwood Parent Facilitator Emily Cruzado, and Brightwood students to thank the Vermont-based family of Peyton Smith who generously donated 75 pairs of new sneakers to students at Brightwood to honor the memory of Peyton, an avid sneaker lover who lost his battle with cancer at age 18.

The Smith family describes Peyton as a teen who was “an avid, member, participant, and growing influencer of the sneaker culture community for many years” and who even traveled to Nike headquarters in 2019 to collaborate with some of the world's most innovative sneaker designers to design a custom pair of Nike Air Jordan IV's.

Mayor Sarno stated, “This was truly a heartwarming act of kindness and I am so grateful that the Smith’s chose our Brightwood Elementary School for this giveaway and for sharing Peyton’s story, passion, and generosity with our students and families.”

All donations were made possible by the Shoes That Fit organization. For more information, please visit https://www.shoesthatfit.org/.
