Mayor Sarno Joined with Dryden Elementary Students for Crash Course in City Government

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined today with third-grade students from Mary A. Dryden Veterans Memorial School for a special lesson on City Government. As part of the student’s history and social studies curriculum, they are learning about Massachusetts Cities and Towns. Mayor Sarno was happy to visit with the class via Zoom to talk about his role and responsibilities as Mayor and discuss how city government works.

Mayor Sarno stated, “Our future is bright and in good hands. The students in Deb Sherburne’s third grade class were a joy to meet with today. We had a great discussion – and a little bit of fun too – about our different levels of government. I told them too, that I sat where they are sitting as a third grader at White Street School and now I’m humbled and honored to be the proud Mayor of Springfield in order to let them all know they can and will do the same. I know we will see some of our Dryden Memorial students and others from our Springfield Public Schools as government leaders someday. Keep up the good hard work and continue asking questions! Proud of you all, our teachers, and staff too."
