Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined with Mercy Medical Center officials, nurses, doctors, hospital chaplains, and other staff today to mark the one-year anniversary of the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. On March 11, 2020 the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak a global pandemic.
Today, one year later, Mayor Sarno joined with Mercy Medical Center President Deborah Bitsoli, Mercy’s Chief Medical Officer Doctor Robert Roose, Chief of Emergency Medicine Doctor Mark Kenton, Chairmen of the Board Paul Mancinone, and Vice President of Advocacy and Government Relations Dan Keenan, along with State Representative Mike Finn, State Representative Angelo Puppolo, and State Representative Brian Ashe for a ceremony at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield which served to commemorate the lives lost to the virus as well as the immense impact it has had on our healthcare providers who have endured extraordinary challenges over this past year.
Mayor Sarno stated, “It has been a tumultuous and surreal past year as we have dealt to defeat this COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. We have faced the full spectrum of death to resiliency. We have mourned many a time alone and prayed in the spirit of hope. For those of you all who continue to be on the front lines, with your dedicated, brave and compassionate efforts, a huge thank you goes out to you all and your families too. We have shed many a tears, but rest assured, hope springs eternal and we will laugh and smile again. May God Bless you all.”
