Mayor Sarno and Police Commissioner Clapprood Introduce New Springfield Police Department Vehicle to Address Illegal Dirt Bikes

Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood, Lt. Jeff Martucci, and Sgt. Brian Elliott stopped by City Hall to show Mayor Domenic J. Sarno the Springfield Police Department Metro Unit’s new vehicle to help address the illegal dirt bike on our public streets.

Shortly after the showing, the new Metro Unit vehicle responded to a call for an illegal dirt bike downtown and managed to seize the illegal vehicle.

Mayor Sarno stated, “I commend Commissioner Clapprood and our brave and dedicated men and women of our SPD on this specialized unit.  I want to thank them, Lt. Brian Beliveau, and the State Police for their continued tracking efforts to eradicate these illegal dirt bikes and ATV marauders on our city streets and neighborhoods.  We will continue to cite, arrest, and confiscate these illegal vehicles.  I again, ask parents of these young riders to intervene with their child, for their own health and safety, and help educate them on the appropriate places to ride and enjoy these vehicles.  Our public streets are no place to ride these vehicles.  It is illegal and you can get seriously injured or worse.  We just recently confiscated four more dirt bikes and will continue enforcement in the name of public health, public safety, and for the quality of life for our residents and business community.”
