Governor Charlie Baker previously announced that residents of the Commonwealth’s public housing authorities, designated primarily for older adults, would become eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as part of the Commonwealths Phase II Vaccine Deployment Plan.
Mayor Sarno stated, “As part of the Commonwealth’s Phase II Vaccine Deployment Plan, the City of Springfield and the Springfield Housing Authority will partner together to help vaccinate those eligible residents in our public housing authority. I want to thank Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris and Springfield Housing Authority Executive Director Denise Jordan for collaborating to get these much-needed vaccines to one of our most vulnerable populations, our beloved senior citizens.”
HHS Commissioner Caulton-Harris stated, “To continue to successfully mitigate the community spread of this COVID-19 Coronavirus it is critical that we work collaboratively to meet the public health needs of our residents especially those who live in our public housing authority. I am grateful to the Springfield Housing Authority for partnering with the City of Springfield in helping to make the vaccine available to our most vulnerable, underserved and marginalized residents.”
SHA Executive Director Jordan stated, “The current vaccination site at the Eastfield Mall is not accessible to the majority of our residents, who reside closer to the center of Springfield. Having the City agree to partner with us to set up an accessible site for our residents at the Boland School, has made becoming vaccinated so much easier for are our residents.”
