Mayor Sarno, Police Commissioner Clapprood and Fire Commissioner Calvi Attend Ribbon Cutting and Park Dedication to Sgt. Kevin E. Ambrose

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined today with Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood, Fire Commissioner BJ Calvi, representatives from Christina’s House, and members of the Ambrose Family for a ribbon cutting and park dedication to Sgt. Kevin E. Ambrose.

Kevin E. Ambrose was a 36-year veteran of the Springfield Police Department who was shot and killed on June 4, 2012 while responding to a domestic dispute at a Sixteen Acres apartment complex.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated, “We must never forget and always remember Officer Ambrose’s heroic efforts to save a young mother and her child. He made the ultimate sacrifice in order to secure their lives – this is what our brave an dedicated police officers do day in and day out without any fanfare.”

The City of Springfield in partnership with the Ride to Remember and Christina’s House honored Sgt. Ambrose by planting a tree by a copper bench in quiet reverie of his selfless service and devotion to our community.  Christina’s House created a contemplative garden at their Union Street house in honor of his ultimate sacrifice.
