The Springfield Veterans Activities Committee and Department of Veterans Services have again sponsored the Veteran of the Year and Parade Marshal awards. Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Springfield Veterans Activities Committee Chair Charly Lawrence presented the recipients with their sashes and awards today.
The Veteran of the Year Award is given on an annual basis to a Springfield resident who is a veteran and continuously volunteers their personal time to better our community and never seeks recognition for the work they’ve done. This year’s recipient is Officer Jose L. Feliciano, who has been a Police Officer with the Springfield Police Department since 1995. He is a 27 year Army Combat Veteran, founding member of the Springfield Police Department’s Honor Guard, lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the West Springfield American Legion Post 207.
The position of Parade Marshal is awarded to an individual who strives to increase the quality of life for our community’s veterans through their personal and professional work. Sgt. 1st Class Todd Crevier is this year’s Parade Marshal. He served in the U.S. Army and runs a nonprofit organization, New England Adventures, which focuses on providing all-expense paid outdoor sporting events and therapeutic outdoor act ivies to New England veterans, current service members and their families.
The Springfield Veterans Day Parade is Sunday, November 11th, rain or shine. It begins at Springfield Technical Community College and ends with a ceremony at City Hall.
