The Mayor’s Office of Consumer Protection is partnering with the Office of Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healy and the Federal Trade Commission this week to recognize 2017 National Consumer Protection Week. The Office of Consumer Information is holding outreach events during the week to assist members of the community with consumer issues, such as those with auto dealers, landlord/tenant issues, predatory lending, for-profit schools and/or bad student loans, faulty products, and other frauds or scams.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated, “When it comes to consumer protection, education is the best prevention from falling victim of a scam or scheme. We hope you will take advantage of the event this week to find resources that will help you fight scams and fraud today, tomorrow, and all year long. I’m very appreciative of Millie Johnson’s continued and dedicated efforts – she’s done a tremendous job.”
“During this campaign, we are providing tips and free consumer materials, as well as encouraging consumers to take full advantage of their consumer rights and to learn to make better-informed decisions,” added Milagros (Millie) Johnson, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Consumer Affairs.
Any residents experiencing these issues or who would like assistance with other consumer related issues are encouraged to attend the following events. Director Milagros Johnson and her staff, Case Specialists Natalia Shtrom and Briana Andella, will be at these various locations for support. As indicated in the event description column, bilingual staff can assist those who speak Spanish or Russian.
