Springfield Police Department Launches Free Crime Mapping and Alerting Service for Residents

Springfield, MA – Mayor Domenic J Sarno and Police Commissioner John Barbieri have partnered with Motorola Solutions to provide Springfield residents with daily crime information available through CrimeReports.com. Residents can access this information from the CrimeReports iOS or Android application, online at www.crimereports.com or directly from the Springfield Police Department website here: http://www.springfield-ma.gov/police/.

CrimeReports provides free, up-to-date crime information on an easy-to-use map for any location within Springfield’s boundaries. Residents can sign up to receive official alerts from the Springfield Police Department as well as daily, weekly, or monthly updates on any number of crime types. CrimeReports.com includes an anonymous tip submission tool so residents can send tips related to crimes they see listed on the map. Additionally, residents and businesses with security cameras can assist the Springfield Police Department’s crime fighting efforts by registering the location of their cameras for faster emergency responses and investigations.

Mayor Sarno stated, “The Springfield Police Department’s adoption of CrimeReports demonstrates Springfield’s commitment to building citizen trust and increasing community safety through transparent communications. The clear, transparent and timely information provided on CrimeReports will help to build community confidence and increase their efficiency by reducing requests for information.”

“CrimeReports.com will prove particularly valuable to those in the community who want to stay informed about what is going on in their neighborhoods and enables Springfield residents to work with the police department to jointly create a safer community,” said Commissioner Barbieri.
