CyberTrust Massachusetts Non-Profit Will Bolster Training & Local Resiliency, Backed by $1 Million State Award

Additional $2.7 Million in Grants to Support Cyber Ranges and Security Operations Centers in Bridgewater & Springfield

Oct 27 BRIDGEWATER – Today, the Baker-Polito Administration and the MassCyberCenter at the MassTech Collaborative announced two new initiatives to promote the development of a diverse cybersecurity workforce and improve local cyber resiliency in the Commonwealth, supported by over $3.7 million in state grants. The announcements were made during the 6th Massachusetts Cybersecurity Forum at Bridgewater State University, which brought together 100 executives from companies, municipalities, and leading universities.

The awards include a $1,086,476 grant to support the launch of CyberTrust Massachusetts, a new non-profit that will work with business and academia statewide to grow the cybersecurity talent pipeline by increasing career pathways for underrepresented groups, and promote security operations to address the day-to-day needs of resource-constrained municipalities, non-profits, and small businesses.

New service between New Haven, Hartford and Springfield starts June 16th!

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Congressman Richard E. Neal announced today that Springfield Union Station has won the grand prize of the Phoenix Awards for best Brownfields redevelopment in the country in 2017. The award was the highlight of the annual Phoenix Awards, announced at the 2017 National Brownfields Conference in Pittsburgh, Penn., earlier this month. Springfield Union Station was redeveloped by the Springfield Redevelopment Authority (SRA), reopening in 2017 after being vacant since its closure in 1973. 

The award highlights the environmental cleanup that was the critical first phase in being able to redevelop the historic Union Station, the former baggage building property, and the former site of the Hotel Charles. The property had petroleum, metals, and asbestos contamination and the project also addressed air quality and congestion mitigation.

“This is further proof on how impactful the Union Station project has been, to win such an award with competition of great redevelopment projects not only in New England but throughout the country,” said Kevin Kennedy, Chief Development Officer.

The Phoenix Awards recognize exemplary brownfield redevelopment and revitalization. Winning projects offer a fresh take on significant environmental issues, show innovation and demonstrate masterful community impact.

Peter Pan Bus Lines has signed a five year deal to move its corporate headquarters to Union Station, with potential options for 20 years. The Executive Offices, with around 100 jobs, will occupy the entire third floor of the Station. The lease is valued at $1,600,000 for the initial term. 

Since opening in late June, the Union Station property is now at 65% occupancy. The Springfield Redevelopment Authority, along with management company Appleton, continue to work with other tenants for the remaining office and retail space.

On October 18th, Business Leaders and Public Officials from around the region got together at the newly renovated Union Station to discuss enhanced rail and travel within the "Knowledge Corridor" (New Haven-Hartford-Springfield-Boston).

SPRINGFIELD -- Springfield's Union Station has its first office tenant.

Kerry L. Dietz, owner and principal of Dietz & Company Architects, announced Tuesday that the company, the largest architecture firm in the region, will move into Union Station from offices nearby at 17 Hampden St., also in downtown Springfield.

This $84.5 million project will integrate multiple transit modes in one convenient, functional and attractive mixed-used complex that includes not only a regionally significant transportation facility but also third-party tenants.

Now under preliminary construction, Springfield Union Station will include:

• The complete renovation of the Terminal Building and its central concourse to support ticketing, waiting and support areas for Amtrak, intercity and state-supported regional rail service as well as regional PVTA and intercity bus operations.

• The renovation and reactivation of the Amtrak passenger tunnel linking the terminal building to train platforms and the adjacent downtown area.

• Demolition of the former baggage handling building and construction of a 26-bay integrated open-air regional and intercity bus terminal and a six -level 377-space on-site parking garage.

• Opening up of 64,000 square feet of leasable commercial space on the upper floors of the Terminal Building.
