Q: How do I get certified?
A: There are a few necessary steps to get certified:
- Eligibility: Ensure the owner is a U.S. citizen, that has good moral character, and is at least 51% owned, managed and operated by minority group.
- Gather required documents: The required documents will differ depending on the specific business structure and the type of certification(s) the business is applying for. You can view this information after registering an account in the portal. Once logged in you will find a "Requirements" section where you can view and filter required documents based on your business structure and type of certification(s) you wish to apply for.
- Submit all supporting documents through the certrak portal during the application process.
- Application Review: After intake, an investigator is assigned to the application for an in-depth review of documents submitted for the business.
- Site Visit (if required): A site visit may be conducted to verify information provided.
- Certification Decision: Once the review is complete, a certification decision is made, if approved, the busineses will be officially certified as an MBE in Massachusetts.

A: Certification is valid for three years in the Directory of Certified Businesses.
