259 - RFP: Grant Evaluator One-To-One Wireless Technology Computing Grant in Support of Chemistry

The Science Department of the Springfield Public Schools is seeking a grant evaluator for the second phase of the one-to-one wireless technology computing grant in support of chemistry. The goal of the grant is to better understand how technology and access to individual computers improves student achievement in Chemistry. The grant provides laptop carts for high school science departments. Phase I of the grant provided a laptop cart for The High School of Science and Technology and Phase II of the grant provides laptop carts for Commerce High School and Central High School.

Expectations of the grant evaluator:
-Analyze the utilization of laptops in the teaching chemistry and science in grades 9 and grade 11 in SciTech and Commerce High School and Central High School.
-Chart Chemistry achievement and technology utilization in the chemistry classrooms in the three schools during the second year of the grant (fall 2006-spring 2007)
-Assess and evaluate teaching and learning of chemistry and the integration of technology into the Chemistry curriculum.
-Assess teacher professional development and sharing of knowledge and sharing and chemistry lessons on MASS ONE and the Springfield Learning Center.

Consideration will be given to an evaluator who has had previous experience in evaluating a science grant, especially in the area of chemistry. The evaluator should be familiar with the goals of the DOE Technology Integration Grant. All work on the evaluation of the grant should be completed by August 15, 2007.

The budget proposed for the evaluation of the One-to-One Wireless Technology Computing Grant is $10,000.00.

The City of Springfield supports the goal of twenty percent minority and women participation in all contracts. No questions will be answered unless received by the Chief Procurement Officer at least 7 days prior to the expiration of the time set for submitting bids or proposals. The Chief Procurement Officer reserves the right to waive any informality in and to reject any or all bids if it is in the public interest to do so.
