308 - RFP: The Evaluation of The Science Integrated Technology/Chemistry Grant

The City of Springfield, MA Public Schools Science Department is going out to bid for a grant evaluator for their Science Integrated Technology/Chemistry Grant.

The Integrated Technology/Chemistry Grant is awarded to the Springfield Public Schools to provide one-to-one lap top computers for the purpose of enhancing the teaching and learning of chemistry. The grant provides a lap top cart with 15 computers and the district has purchased a laptop cart with an additional 15 lap tops. These carts were given to a chemistry teacher to provide individual lap tops for his students in order to improve the understanding of the abstract concepts of chemistry. The Lexington Public Schools are partners with the Springfield Public Schools in the grant.

In addition, computer software was selected and training was provided for teachers to integrate technology into the chemistry curriculum. The goal of this grant is to better understand how technology and access to individual lap tops for students can improve student achievment in chemistry.

The work done for this RFP will be paid at a rate of $50.00 per hour. The estimated cost is $10,000.00. Bidding procedures shall be per M.G.L. Chapter 30B.

Consideration will be given to grant evaluators with experience in evaluation of science grants. The work on this grant should begin on June 15, 2006 with a final written report due on August 20, 2006.

The City of Springfield supports the goal of twenty percent minority and women participation in all contracts. No questions will be answered unless received by the Chief Procurement Officer at least 7 days prior to the expiration of the time set for submitting bids or proposals. The Chief Procurement Officer reserves the right to waive any informality in and to reject any or all bids if it is in the public interest to do so.
