11-162 - Purchase of Zanetti Montessori School

The City of Springfield is requesting proposals for the redevelopment of SS Howard Street (59 Howard Street), the former Zanetti Montessori Elementary School, located in the South End neighborhood. The property was built in 1905 on a 70,675 square foot lot (approx. 1.6 acres). The total gross building area is 70,440 square feet.

The City's goal is that any development be compatible with the character of Springfield and enhance the positive qualities of the Downtown, South End, and surrounding neighborhoods It is a further goal that proposals for the Property be economically viable and demonstrate an ability to generate activity that would further benefit the greater Springfield community.

The redevelopment of the former Zanetti School site is an important piece in the overall redevelopment plan for Springfield's South End. The City has invested heavily in the South End neighborhood and there are ongoing efforts to revitalize the area through the South End Revitalization Project (for more information, please visit the South End Revitalization Coalition website www.Springfield-MA.gov/SouthEndProject. Most recently, the City invested $4 million dollars in significant streetscape improvements to Main Street and new residential sidewalks.

There will be two site visits at 59 Howard Street, Springfield, MA 01105:
1. Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
2. Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

The Chief Procurement Officer reserves the right to waive any informality in and to reject any or all bids if it is in the public interest to do so.

The City of Springfield supports the goal of twenty percent minority and women participation in all contracts. No questions will be answered unless received by the Chief Procurement Officer at least 10 days prior to the expiration of the time set for submitting bids or proposals. The Chief Procurement Officer reserves the right to waive any informality in and to reject any or all bids if it is in the public interest to do so.
