136 - Request for Proposal For: Career Specialist for School-to-Career

The School Committee of the City of Springfield wishes to obtain the services of a qualified contractor to recruit, place and monitor students who have failed one or both parts of the MCAS or who have scored in the Needs Improvement range to participate in internship opportunities in the Springfield Public Schools. The purpose of this position is to increase the number of internships offered to youths so that more students have the opportunity to see the connection between academics and the world of work.

The qualified contractor will develop a process to identify, recruit and place 11th and 12th grade students who have not passed one or both portions of the MCAS or have scored in the Needs Improvement category.

Estimated cost of services is $40,000.00. Timeline for this project is December 1, 2006 to August 31, 2007. The City hereby requests competitive sealed proposals in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 30B.

The City of Springfield supports the goal of twenty percent minority and women participation in all contracts. No questions will be answered unless received by the Chief Procurement Officer at least 7 days prior to the expiration of the time set for submitting bids or proposals. The Chief Procurement Officer reserves the right to waive any informality in and to reject any or all bids if it is in the public interest to do so.
