228A - RFP: Striving Readers (SR) Project Co-Director

The City of Springfield School Committee wishes to obtain the services of a qualified contractor to assume the duties of Project Co-Director for the Springfield-Chicopee Striving Readers Initiative (SR) made possible by a 16.5 million dollar U.S. Department of Education (ED) Grant. The purpose of the initiative is designed to raise the reading achievements levels of adolescents in schools with significant numbers of students reading below grade level. The grant provides resources to implement whole school and targeted literacy interventions for students in all five schools.

The participating schools are: Chicopee Comprehensive High School, Chicopee High School, High School of Commerce, High School of Science and Technology, and Roger L. Putnam Vocational-Technical High School.

Estimated Cost of Project Co-Director is $47,000.00. Timeline for this position is May 1, 2006 to February 28, 2007 with the option to renew for two additional one (1) year terms.The City hereby requests competitive sealed proposals in accordance with Massachusetts General
Laws Chapter 30B, § 6.

The City of Springfield supports the goal of twenty percent minority and women participation in all contracts. No questions will be answered unless received by the Chief Procurement Officer at least 7 days prior to the expiration of the time set for submitting bids or proposals. The Chief Procurement Officer reserves the right to waive any informality in and to reject any or all bids if it is in the public interest to do so.
