Mayor Sarno Visits Mr. Leone’s US History Class at Duggan Academy

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno visited with students in Mr. Jared Leone’s AP U.S. History class at John J. Duggan academy today. Mayor Sarno shared his own personal experience attending Springfield Public Schools, growing up in his dad’s barber shop, avoiding peer pressure, and how to approach important decisions as an elected official.

Mayor Sarno states, “I want to thank Principal Michael Calvanese and History teacher Mr. Jared Leone and the dedicated teachers and staff at Duggan Academy for their continued efforts on behalf of our students. Thank you to Mr. Leone’s history students for having me today and for a good discussion on effective decision making, the interpretations of the Constitution, responding to natural disasters, and why it is so important to never give up. I am a proud product of our Springfield Public Schools, High School of Commerce graduate Class of 1981, and shared with these young and bright students my own personal experience growing up. I want to encourage them to continue to learn and advance their education be it in a college or university, a trade school, military service or opening their own business. The possibilities are endless and the sky is the limit for these bright and talented young minds. Never let your zip code dictate your future – you continue to dictate your future.”
