Springfield celebrated the hand-off of local governance from the state-appointed Finance Control Review Board to Mayor Domenic Sarno and the City Council with the passing of the ceremonial gavel on the steps of City Hall, June 30, 2009. Governor Deval Patrick and current and former members of the Finance Control Board joined City leaders for the program, which was followed by an outdoor luncheon on Court Square.
