Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Ward 1 City Councilor Maria Perez, Chief of Staff Tom Ashe and city and school officials joined with New North Citizens Council’s (NNCC) Chief Operating Officer Jose Claudio to view and tour the old Brightwood School to serve as a temporary site for the NNCC’s pre-school program which has been displaced due to the devastating apartment complex fire this past Saturday evening. The fire was adjacent to their headquarter site and sustained fire and water damage.

Mayor Sarno states “First, I want to commend Fire Commissioner BJ Calvi and our brave and dedicated Fire Department for their efforts to knock down this fire.  Thank God no one was hurt or killed.  Chief of Staff Tom Ashe and I, along with city and school officials, have been working with New North Citizens Council Executive Director Maria Ligus and COO Jose Claudio and City Councilor Maria Perez since late Saturday evening to assist the affected families with temporary housing.  I’d also like to thank School Superintendent Daniel Warwick, Housing Director Gerry McCafferty and Housing Retention Coordinator Jesus Acre for their continued efforts.  During these challenging times I am very proud of our city team, who along with the New North Citizens Council, are tested and true in dealing with unfortunate events such as this.  We work together as a team to immediately respond and provide the necessary assistance and resources to those in need that were affected by these types of events.”
