Springfield DPW Announces Sewer Pipe Improvement Project on Main Street

|   City News

The Springfield Department of Public Works (DPW) is announcing that the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission will begin their sewer pipe improvement project along Main Street between Court Street and State Street. The work is expected to begin the week of January 23, 2023, and continue through March 2023. Construction hours are anticipated to be Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Residents are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion during construction.  During construction hours, this section of Main Street, including the intersections at Court Street and State Street will require temporary lane shifts and lane closures.  There will also be restrictions for street side parking during construction hours too.

Please note that access to abutting businesses, public buildings and Court Square will be maintained.

Pedestrian and vehicle traffic are advised to take notice of posted signs and police details.

The scope of the work involved by the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission will include replacing sewer pipes that date back to 1881 as part of the Commission’s collection system asset management and maintenance program.

On behalf of the City of Springfield and the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission we thank everyone for their patience and understanding as their vital infrastructure work is performed.
