SPRINGFIELD CITY HALL, MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS AND PUBLIC SCHOOLS WILL BE CLOSED WEDNESDAY DUE TO THE FORECAST OF AN IMPENDING MAJOR WINTER STORM
CITY URGES PRIVATE SECTOR EMPLOYERS TO TAKE SIMILAR ACTIONS
February 1, 2011 – In anticipation of Wednesday’s forecasted major snowstorm and the issues associated therewith, Springfield City Hall, City satellite offices and Public Schools will be closed Wednesday. The City’s Department of Emergency Preparedness has advised Mayor Sarno that the Springfield area can expect significant snowfall totals. Icy conditions are also forecasted.
This closing will apply only to non-emergency City employees. All emergency personnel positions will remain staffed.
The City of Springfield is also encouraging private sector employers to take similar actions to maintain the highest level of public safety. These actions will help the City’s Department of Public Works facilitate a more effective snow removal and help to minimize a potentially long, slow and dangerous morning and afternoon commute.
As a result of the snowstorm, collection of rubbish will not take place on Wednesday, February 2, 2011. Residents with Wednesday rubbish collection will have collection on Saturday, February 5, 2011. Residents who have recycling collection service on Wednesday, February 2, 2011, should also place out their recyclables on Saturday, February 5, 2011.
Residents should stay tuned to local media for weather updates and any other cancellations or postponements.
