CitiStat Awarded Trailblazer Grant

SPRINGFIELD’S CITISTAT PROGRAM RECEIVES GOVERNMENT TRAILBLAZER GRANT FROM THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR CIVIC INNOVATION

July 8, 2009 - Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and CitiStat Director Paul Foster announced today that the National Center for Civic Innovation on Government Performance has awarded the City of Springfield’s CitiStat program a Government Trailblazer grant.  This grant both recognizes the progress the City of Springfield has already made in performance measurement and reporting, while providing resources to go further by engaging the public in these efforts.

The CitiStat program, launched in January 2008, focuses on achieving Mayor Sarno’s priorities of accountability, efficiency, and results through regular, data-driven performance management meetings with every City department.  The $5,000 grant from the National Center for Civic Innovation will provide support for CitiStat to provide greater public access to performance data and information through the City’s website and to solicit input and feedback from the residents of Springfield on what CitiStat should be measuring and reporting.  In addition, CitiStat will participate in two conferences with other Government Trailblazer recipients, sharing what has been learned in Springfield and hearing new ideas and strategies for performance management and reporting going forward.

The National Center for Civic Innovation (NCCI) is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization created by the Board of Directors of the Fund for the City of New York (FCNY) in 2002.  The Government Trailblazer Program of NCCI has two major objectives: (1) to produce greater alignment between the public's point of view and the actions and priorities of its local government; and (2) to provide non-confrontational opportunities for the public and government to discuss matters of mutual concern.  More information can be found at: http://www.nationalcenterforcivicinnovation.org/main.html.
