Smith & Wesson Honors Springfield Police Officer Nestor Santos

Springfield, Mass. — Earlier this month, Smith and Wesson honored Springfield Police Officer Nestor Santos as part of their Hero Recognition Program.  Officer Santos was shot in the face and leg in June 2024.  It left a bullet fragment lodged in his head. After many surgeries, he lost his vision in one eye.  Officer Santos returned to work one year later in June 2025.

The Smith & Wesson Hero Recognition Program honors men and women of law enforcement that have overcome an extraordinary challenge in the line of duty.  Smith & Wesson recognized Officer Santos for his commitment to duty and to his community.  Officer Santos was presented with a Smith & Wesson “Thin Blue Line” challenge coin.

Smith and Wesson Global Sales Team Leader Matt Fehmel visited Officer Santos and members of the Springfield Police Department at the Springfield Police Training Facility on Page Boulevard, formerly owned by Smith & Wesson, to present Officer Santos with the challenge coin and thank him for his service to duty.

In part Fehmel stated, “Your brave actions in Springfield, Massachusetts in June 2024 and your desire to return to duty to continue to serve your community after recovering from your severe wounds, epitomize the core values of our society and your profession, and they inspire every employee at Smith & Wesson.  On behalf of our entire company, please accept our sincere gratitude for your dedication to service.”
