Springfield Police Officers Arrest Suspect and Recover Stolen Dirt Bike

Springfield, Mass. --- On Friday July 11th, Springfield Police Officers under the direction of Sergeant William Catellier recovered a stolen dirt bike and arrested 25-year-old Shyloe Harris.

Springfield Police Officers were conducting an anti-Off-Highway-Vehicle detail to deter the illegal riding of dirt bikes and other off-highway vehicles.  These vehicles are illegal on any city street and have led to serious injuries and death to numerous riders.  These riders are also known to drive recklessly putting pedestrians and other vehicular traffic in danger.

Around 6:35 p.m., officers observed a dirt bike rider driving reckless in the area of Main Street and Belmont Avenue.  Assisting officers working this detail observed the rider, later identified as Harris, pass several vehicles and run a red light at high speeds.

In the area of White Street and Belmont Avenue officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the rider drove into East Longmeadow.  Springfield Police did not follow the rider out of the city.  Harris then returned to Springfield and would crash on Hiawatha Street.  Harris fell off the bike and attempted to run away.

Officers observed Harris hiding in a garage on Whittier Street.

K9 Officer Jacob Boudreau and K9 Taz arrived on scene and located several clothing items that Harris attempted to discard after the crash.  Harris was placed under arrest.

The dirt bike was reportedly stolen out of Sunderland.
