SPD Officers Arrest Suspect with Large-Capacity Firearm
Springfield, Mass. — On Sunday July 13th at approximately 5:00 p.m., Springfield Police Officers seized a large-capacity firearm and arrested 36-year-old Bernie Ruiz Jr. following a traffic stop.
Around 4:30 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on the 0-100 block of Horace Street. The driver, Ruiz, had an outstanding arrest warrant and did not have a driver's license. He was placed under arrest.
Officers also located a firearm inside the vehicle. The firearm was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.
36-year-old Bernie Ruiz Jr. of Springfield is charged with:
- Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
- Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
- Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
- Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device
- Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, while having an Active Warrant
- Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Littering from a Motor Vehicle
- Arrest Warrant
- Assault & Battery on a Correctional Facility Employee
