SPD Officers Seize Illegal Firearm, Trafficking Weight of Cocaine
Springfield, Mass. — On Wednesday July 2nd at approximately 7:05 p.m., members of the Springfield Police Neighborhood Stabilization Bureau seized an illegal firearm, trafficking weight of cocaine and heroin after a traffic stop.
About five minutes earlier, officers were patrolling in the Adams Street area when they observed a vehicle with a defective headlight. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the 0-100 block of Central Street.
Officers located cocaine, crack-cocaine and more than $3200 in cash on the driver, identified as Thomas Rodriguez. The crack-cocaine weighed approximately 28 grams, while the powder cocaine weighed approximately 10 grams.
Inside the vehicle, officers recovered a loaded large capacity firearm, loose ammunition and approximately 400 bags of heroin. Rodriguez and the vehicle's passenger, Bobby Guzman, were placed under arrest.
32-year-old Thomas Rodriguez of Enfield, Connecticut is charged with:
- Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
- Firearm Violation with 1 Prior Violent/Drug Crime
- Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
- Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Trafficking Cocaine 18-36 Grams
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
- Motor Vehicle Lights Violation
48-year-old Bobby Guzman of Springfield is charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
- Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Firearm Violation with 1 Prior Violent/Drug Crime
