SPD FIU Investigation Leads to Recovery of an Illegal Firearm & Firearm Accessories
Springfield, Mass. — On Tuesday July 1st, members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit under the direction of Captain Joseph Dunn and Lieutenant Jaime Bruno, Springfield Police Emergency Services Unit (ESU) under the direction of Lieutenant Matthew Benoit, Hampden County Sheriff's Department and United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force executed a search warrant and recovered a loaded firearm, firearm accessories, drugs and more than $23,000 in cash.
On Monday June 30th, FIU Detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for a home on the 200 block of Plainfield Street.
Around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, the search warrant was executed, and four subjects were detained: Jemsen Ortiz, Angel Vazquez, Erika Ramos-Davilla and Amarilys Calderon-Ramos, pending the search of the home.
During the search, Detectives recovered more than $23,000 in cash, an extended firearm magazine loaded with 31 rounds of ammunition, approximately 182 clonazepam pills, various firearms accessories and parts, approximately 20 strips of suboxone, approximately 3.7 grams of cocaine, 48 rounds of ammunition and a firearm loaded with eight rounds of ammunition.
Ortiz is currently out on bail and outfitted with an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet for a pending case in Hampden Superior Court.
On February 9th, 2024, Springfield Police FIU Detectives arrested Ortiz and Vazquez with five illegal firearms, including a machine gun.
20-year-old Jemsen Ortiz of Springfield is charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm without an FID Card
- Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
- Improper Storage of a Firearm
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug (Suboxone)
- Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
42-year-old Angel Vazquez of Springfield is charged with:
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug (Suboxone)
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug (Cocaine)
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class E Drug (Clonazepam)
- Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
42-year-old Erika Ramos-Davilla of Springfield is charged with:
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug (Suboxone)
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug (Cocaine)
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class E Drug (Clonazepam)
- Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
24-year-old Amarilys Calderson-Ramos of Springfield is charged with:
- Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine
