SPD Officers, K9 Taz Locate Firearm, Arrest Suspect after Gun Call
Springfield, Mass. — On Sunday June 22nd at approximately 3:15 a.m., Springfield Police Officers and a Springfield Police K9 Unit arrested 22-year-old Abraham Harris on the 1100 block of Bay Street after responding to a gun call.
Around 2:20 a.m., officers responded to the 1700 block of Roosevelt Avenue inside Blunt Park for a gun call. Officers located several subjects who left the park and walked into a parking lot on the 1100 block of Bay Street. One subject, later identified as Harris, took off running.
Harris was holding an item by his side while running. Harris had jumped over a fence and then came back over where he was detained. The Springfield Fire Department arrived and helped the officer gain access behind the locked fence area. K9 Officer Jacob Boudreau and K9 Taz located a firearm next the fence which Harris had scaled. The firearm was loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition. Officers placed him under arrest.
22-year-old Abraham Harris of Broad Brook, Connecticut is charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
- Trespassing with a Firearm
- Breaking and Entering a Building at Nighttime for a Felony
- Arrest Warrant
- Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
