SPD FIU Investigation Leads to Recovery of Large-Capacity Ghost Gun & Heroin
Springfield, Mass. — On Tuesday June 17th, members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) under the direction of Captain Joseph Dunn and Lieutenant Jaime Bruno, along with members of the Springfield Police Metro Unit and Hampden County Sheriff's Department seized a loaded Ghost Gun, heroin, crack-cocaine and cash while arrested 35-year-old Rondell Palmer on Orange Street.
For the past several weeks, members of the Springfield Police FIU have been investigating illegal drug distribution out of an apartment on the 200 block of Orange Street. Detectives were able to identify Palmer as the target of the investigation. Detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for his Orange Street apartment.
Around 12:30 p.m., Detectives and Officers executed the search warrant. Six subjects were detained in and around the apartment and were later released. Palmer left the apartment and attempted to jump over a porch to flee the area but was quickly secured.
Detectives recovered a large-capacity Ghost Gun, capable of holding 17 rounds of ammunition, additional ammunition, more than $4000 in cash, approximately 219 bags of heroin and crack-cocaine. Palmer was placed under arrest.
35-year-old Rondell Palmer of Hartford, Connecticut is charged with:
- Possession of a Covert/Undetectable Firearm
- Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
- Improper Storage of a Large Capacity Firearm
- Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
- Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Resisting Arrest
