Suspect in Sunday Night Shooting Arrested

Springfield, Mass. — On Monday June 16th at approximately 2:05 a.m., Springfield Police Officers arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting on Sunday night.  

Around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday June 15th, officers responded to the area of Cedar Street and Lebanon Street for a ShotSpotter activation.  Officers located evidence in the area and were informed an adult male gunshot victim had been privately transported to Mercy Medical Center in relation to this incident.  The victim suffered serious injuries and was later transported to Baystate.  

Members of the Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center (R-TAC) were able to provide a photo of a suspect.  At approximately 1:30 a.m., officers were clearing vehicles from Riverfront Park that were there after the park closed.  As officers were patrolling the parking lot, they observed a subject matching the description of the shooting suspect.  As officers approached this individual to identify him, he began running away.  Officers were able to detain the suspect on the 0-100 block of State Street.  

During the foot pursuit, officers saw the suspect toss an item, which was recovered.  Officers recovered a plastic bag containing loose ammunition.  Officers placed the 17-year-old under arrest.  The Springfield Police Detective Bureau under the direction of Captain Trent Duda continued investigating and Monday morning charged the juvenile with the prior night's shooting.  

Due to his age, the suspect's name, booking photo and specific charges will not be released.
