SPD FIU Detectives Recover Loaded Firearm from Suspect with Open Firearms Charges

Springfield, Mass. — On Thursday June 12th at approximately 4:35 p.m., members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) under the direction of Lieutenant Jaime Bruno and Sergeant Evan Donermeyer along with members of the Hampden County Sheriff's Department arrested a suspect with a loaded firearm who had an outstanding warrant for firearms charges.  

Around 4:30 p.m., a FIU Detective observed Alexis Figueroa as a passenger in a car on Bay Street.  Detectives were aware that there was an Arrest Warrant issued for Figueroa from Chicopee District Court for firearms offenses.  

Assisting Detectives and Sheriff Deputies arrived and conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle near the intersection of Bay Street and Roosevelt Avenue.  Figueroa was placed under arrest for the warrant and had an illegal firearm in his hoodie pocket.  The driver was released from the scene.  Detectives also recovered a baby bottle filled with what is believed to be promethazine and codeine syrup.  

19-year-old Alexis Figueroa of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Possession of a Class B Drug
  • Arrest Warrant - Chicopee District Court
    - Carrying a Firearm without a License
    - Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
    - Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
    - Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
    - Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
    - Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
    - Carrying a Dangerous Weapon
    - Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle
    - Resisting Arrest
