SPD Accepting Applications for Citizens Police Academy

Springfield, Mass. — The Springfield Police Department’s popular Citizen’s Police Academy is set to begin a new class on October 1st. This nine-week program offers citizens insight into how police officers perform their duties and how the department serves the community. 

The Academy is open to all residents of Springfield who are at least 18 years old.  Non-residents are encouraged to apply and will be considered if the class does not fill to capacity.  There is no cost to attend.

The Citizens Police Academy will hold classes on Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Paul J. Fenton Public Safety Annex located at 50 East Street.  The Academy will begin on Thursday October 1st and hold classes every Thursday (except Thanksgiving) through December 3rd.  

Springfield Police Officers will cover topics including but not limited to Criminal & Constitutional Law, Use of Force, Crime Analysis, Forensics, Body-Worn Cameras and Patrol Procedures.
