SPD Metro Officers Seize Trafficking Weight of Cocaine

Springfield, Mass. — On Thursday August 27th at approximately 12:00 p.m., members of the Springfield Police Metro Unit seized a trafficking weight of cocaine and arrested a 17-year-old juvenile male on the 400 block of Main Street.  

A few minutes earlier, officers observed a motorcycle rider without a helmet and no license plate on Belmont Ave.  The rider, a 17-year-old juvenile, then popped a wheelie through a busy intersection at Mill Street and Locust Street.  

Uninvolved officers assigned to the Metro Unit then observed the rider on Main Street making an illegal U-Turn in front of traffic.  The rider then drove recklessly in front of the officers.  

Once the rider stopped, officers approached him on the 400 block of Main Street in a parking lot.  The rider attempted to take off on the motorcycle, then tried to run away, both attempts failed.   Officers placed the rider under arrest.  The rider did not have a license either.  

Officers then recovered both powder and crack-cocaine in a bag under the seat of the motorcycle.  Officers also seized additional powder cocaine, crack-cocaine and marijuana in a shoulder bag that the suspect was wearing. 

The total weight of the powder and crack-cocaine was approximately 21 grams.  

Due to his age, the suspect's name will not be released.
