Superintendent Akers Recognizes Officer Denise Matthews and Troopers for Saving a Life
Springfield, Mass. --- Springfield Police Superintendent Lawrence E. Akers would like to publicly recognize Officer Denise Matthews and Troopers James Cook & Justin Mestre for serving the public in a manner that shines a positive light on our department.
Superintendent Akers received a report from Massachusetts State Police Lieutenant Corey Mackey who is assigned to the Gaming Enforcement Unit. On August 23rd, around 10:15 a.m., members of the Gaming Enforcement Unit responded to a non-responsive adult on the gaming floor. Trooper Cook began CPR as Officer Matthews rushed to the scene to assist. Officer Matthews and Trooper Cook utilized an AED which was provided by MGM Security. Trooper Mestre placed a breathing device on the subject. After about two minutes, the subject began talking and breathing on his own. Lt. Mackey stated, “The timely and high-quality CPR provided by members of the GEU saved a life. The seamless teamwork shown by Officer Matthews and Troopers Cook and Mestre is remarkable and of the highest standards of policing. The compassion provided after the subject regained consciousness while awaiting paramedics reflects great upon both departments.”
