SPD Officers Recover Loaded Firearm, Heroin, Crack-Cocaine and Cash

Springfield, Mass --- At approximately 8:30 p.m. Tuesday August 26th, Springfield Police Officers arrested two suspects and seized a large capacity firearm, crack-cocaine, heroin, marijuana and cash. 

Around 8:10 p.m., officers observed a vehicle that did not stop at a red light at the intersection of State Street and Main Street.  Officers conducted a traffic stop on the 100 block of State Street. 

The driver, Kimberly Correa, did not have a driver’s license and the front seat passenger, Josiaha Ramos was not wearing a seatbelt.  A one-year-old child was in the backseat. 

Since no one in the vehicle had a license, the vehicle was going to be towed.  During a search of the vehicle officers observed heroin and crack-cocaine under the passenger seat.  Officers placed Ramos under arrest. 

Next to the child safety seat, officers located a backpack.  Inside the backpack was a loaded firearm and cash.  Officers then placed Correa under arrest. 

Additional cash and marijuana were located on Ramos during the booking process. 

In total, officers seized 56 vials of crack-cocaine, 134 bags of heroin and more than $2700.  The child was released to a family friend. 

22-year-old Josiaha Ramos of Springfield is charged with:

  • Possession of a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm without a License – Subsequent Offense
  • Reckless Endangerment of a Child
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
  • Seatbelt Violation

29-year-old Kimberly Correa of Springfield is charged with:

  • Possession of a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Reckless Endangerment of a Child
  • Failure to Stop (Red Lens)
  • Seatbelt Violation
