SPD NSB Officers Recovered Loaded Ghost Machine Gun
Springfield, Mass. --- On Thursday July 30th at approximately 1:45 p.m., members of the Springfield Police Neighborhood Stabilization Bureau (NSB) and officers assigned to Squad “B” arrested 21-year-old Darrell Coppedge and recovered a loaded Ghost Gun with a sear-selector, making the firearm a fully automatic machine gun.
Around 1:15 p.m., officers observed a subject, identified as Coppedge, carrying a backpack with a portion of a firearm visible on Locust Street.
Coppedge continued walking into a parking lot on Mill Street and returned to the street without the backpack. Officers then recovered the backpack and located a 50 round drum firearm magazine and a Ghost gun with a sear-selector or Glock switch attached. Officers also seized crack-cocaine and cash from the backpack.
Assisting officers then observed Coppedge running in the woods in the area of Acushnet Avenue. Officers located Coppedge hiding in the brush and he was placed under arrest.
At the time of this arrest, Coppedge was on Hampden Superior Court Probation and has previous firearms charges.
21-year-old Darrell Coppedge of Springfield is charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
- Possession of a Machine Gun
- Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
- Improper Storage of a Large Capacity Firearm
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
