SPD Officers Arrest Shooting Suspect
Springfield, Mass. --- On Saturday July 25th at approximately 6:15 p.m., Springfield Police Officers arrested 29-year-old Giovanni Cavallini on the 100 block of Carver Street in connection with a shooting earlier in the day on Fort Pleasant Avenue.
Around 3:10 p.m., officers responded to the 0-100 block of Fort Pleasant Avenue for a ShotSpotter activation. While on scene, officers received information that an adult male gunshot victim had arrived at Baystate. The victim suffered serious but believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Members of the Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center (R-TAC) provided officers video of the incident, which led officers to later identify Cavallini as a suspect.
Around 6:25 p.m., officers located Cavallini on Carver Street and placed him under arrest. This remains an ongoing investigation.
29-year-old Giovanni Cavallini of Springfield is charged with:
- Assault & Battery with a Firearm
- Malicious Damage to a Motor Vehicle
- Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
- Abuse Prevention Order Violation
- Failure to Surrender LTC
