SPD Anti-OHV Detail Leads to the Seizure of Two Dirt Bikes and a Quad

Springfield, Mass. — On Friday May 29th, members of the Springfield Police Department working an Off-Highway-Vehicle (OHV) enforcement detail seized a dirt bike and a quad, while Springfield Police Officers working in Squad “C” seized a dirt bike.

Springfield Police Officers conduct these details to deter the illegal riding of dirt bikes and other off-highway vehicles.  These vehicles are illegal on any city street and have led to serious injuries and death to numerous riders.  Some riders are also known to drive recklessly, putting pedestrians and other vehicular traffic in danger.

Springfield Police Officers working the anti-OHV detail observed a juvenile female riding a quad in the Newbury Street area.  Officers approached the rider when she stopped on the 100 block of Littleton Street. Officers seized the quad and issued a criminal complaint to the juvenile. The name and specific charges the juvenile faces will not be released due to her age.

Officers later located a dirt bike rider in the area of Eastern Avenue.  With the assistance of crime analysts in the Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center, officers were able to follow the dirt bike to Massachusetts Avenue, where it blew a tire.  The rider fell off the bike and officers approached.  The rider attempted to re-mount the dirt bike and ending up striking an officer with the moving vehicle as he pulled a wheelie.  Officers then placed the rider under arrest.  The officers received medical treatment on scene.

21-year-old Jerome Jackson of Springfield is charged with:

  • Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Failure to Stop for Police
  • Unregistered Motor Vehicle
  • Uninsured Motor Vehcile
  • Operating a Snow/Recreational Vehicle on a Public Way

As officers were conducting this detail, officers in Squad “C” observed a dirt bike rider in the South End.

Officers then located the rider on Marble Street.  The rider, later identified as Ian Rosado, attempted to re-mount the dirt bike, but officers prevented that from happening.  Officers placed Rosado under arrest and seized the dirt bike.

21-year-old Ian Rosado of Springfield is charged with:

  • Operating a Snow/Recreational Vehicle on a Public Way
  • Uninsured Motor Vehicle
