SPD Anti-OHV Detail Leads to the Seizure of Two Illegal Motorcycles
Springfield, Mass. — On Thursday May 21st members of the Springfield Police Department working an Off-Highway-Vehicle (OHV) enforcement detail seized two illegal motorcycles, arrested one suspect with an outstanding warrant and issued a criminal complaint.
Springfield Police Officers conduct these details to deter the illegal riding of dirt bikes and other off-highway vehicles. These vehicles are illegal on any city street and have led to serious injuries and death to numerous riders. Some riders are also known to drive recklessly, putting pedestrians and other vehicular traffic in danger.
At approximately 5:55 p.m., officers observed two riders on unregistered motorcycles. One was a moped classified as a motorcycle, the second was a motorcycle designed as a dirt bike. It did not have headlights, brake lights or rear-view mirrors. Once the riders stopped on the 300 block of Allen Street, officers conducted a traffic stop. Neither bike was insured nor was either rider licensed.
One rider, Brayden Canning, had an outstanding warrant and was placed under arrest. The second rider, a 19-year-old male, was issued a criminal complaint.
21-year-old Brayden Canning of Springfield is charged with:

- Uninsured Motor Vehicle
- Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Arrest Warrant – Springfield District Court
- Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
