SPD Homicide Unit Investigation Leads to Arrest in 2024 Murder
Springfield, Mass. --- On Tuesday May 12th at approximately 9:40 a.m., members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) under the direction of Lieutenant Jaime Bruno and Sergeant David Robillard, FIU Warrant Apprehension Unit, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department and United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested 18-year-old Janadiel Resto-Sepulveda inside an apartment on the 0-100 block of Middlesex Street in connection with a July 2024 homicide in the city.
On Sunday July 14th, 2024, at approximately 10:55 p.m., officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation on the 100 block of Massasoit Street. Officers located an adult male gunshot victim. He was transported to Baystate and succumbed to his injuries. The victim was later identified as 19-year-old Damontey Williams of Springfield.
The Springfield Police Homicide Unit under the direction of Captain Trent Duda began investigating in conjunction with the Hampden District Attorney’s Murder Unit.
Springfield Police Homicide Detectives identified Resto-Sepulveda as a suspect and on Monday May 11th, applied for and were granted a warrant for his arrest, which occurred Tuesday morning. Resto-Sepulveda is expected to be arraigned in Springfield District Court Tuesday afternoon.
18-year-old Janadiel Resto-Sepulveda of Springfield is charged with:
- Arrest Warrant
- Murder
- Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
- Carrying a loaded Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
