SPD Officers Arrest Suspect on Puerto Rico's Most Wanted List
Springfield, Mass. — On Tuesday May 5th at approximately 1:25 a.m., Springfield Police Officers arrested 44-year-old Wilberto Aleman-Betancourt on the 100 block of Maple Street.
Around 12:30 a.m., officers responded to a building on Maple Street for a report of a breaking and entering. Officers observed a hole in the exterior door and another hole on the front door of an interior convenience store. When officers entered the building, the suspect, later identified as Aleman-Betancourt, began running. Aleman-Betancourt would trip and officers would take him into custody.
Officers recovered cash and burglarious tools on Aleman-Betancourt. After providing a false name, officers gained his true identity. Aleman-Betancourt was wanted in Caguas, Puerto Rico for aggravated burglary and aggravated damage, he had three extraditable felony warrants. He was also named as one of Puerto Rico's most wanted fugitives within the past two weeks.
44-year-old Wilberto Aleman-Betancourt of Springfield is charged with:
- Breaking and Entering into a Building - Nighttime for a Felony (Two Counts)
- Larceny from a Building
- Possession of Buglarious Instruments
- Resisting Arrest
- Arrestee Furnishing a False Name/SSN
- Fugitive from Justice on a Court Warrant
