SPD Officers Seize Loaded Firearm, Arrest Two Suspects after Responding to a Shots Fired Call

Springfield, Mass. — On April 6th at approximately 8:35 p.m., Springfield Police Officers seized a loaded firearm and arrested two suspects in connection with a shooting. 

Around 7:30 p.m., officers responded to an apartment on the 200 block of Pearl Street for a report of shots fired.  Officers made contact with the residents and observed a bullet hole in a bedroom wall that entered a box spring under a mattress.  No one was struck. 

Officers believed the shot came from an adjoining apartment.  After speaking with the residents in the neighboring apartment, officers located two suspects on a porch, later identified as Jonathan Rivera and Dunesky Diaz. 

Officers then located a loaded firearm on top of a grill on the balcony.  Officers placed Rivera and Diaz under arrest.   

19-year-old Jonathan Rivera of Springfield is charged with:

  • Possession of a Firearm without an FID Card
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
  • Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
  • Defacement of Property

18-year-old Dunesky Diaz of Springfield is charged with:

  • Possession of a Firearm without an FID Card
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
  • Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
  • Defacement of Property
