SPD Officers Seize Four Illegal Off-Highway-Vehicles during Detail

Springfield, Mass. — On Saturday April 4th, members of the Springfield Police Department working on an Off-Highway-Vehicle (OHV) enforcement detail seized four illegal vehicles, issued four criminal complaints and five traffic citations.

Springfield Police Officers conduct these details to deter the illegal riding of dirt bikes and other off-highway vehicles.  These vehicles are illegal on any city street and have led to serious injuries and death to numerous riders.  These riders are also known to drive recklessly putting pedestrians and other vehicular traffic in danger.

In the afternoon, officers issued a rider of a street legal dirt bike a citation for failure to stop/yield near the intersection of Carew Street and Penacook Street.

Officers located a dirtbike that was stopped on the 600 block Carew Street.  The rider was issued a citation and will receive a criminal complaint and the bike was towed.

Officers then stopped three riders on the 100 block of Moreland Street.  Officers issued three criminal complaints, three citations and towed all three off-highway-vehicles.
