SPD and Mayor Sarno Congratulate Captain Edward Geier on his Retirement after 40 Years
Springfield, Mass. — On Tuesday March 3rd, Captain Edward Geier retired from the Springfield Police Department on the 40th anniversary of the day he began at the Springfield Police Academy in 1986.
In front of dozens of officers and friends, Springfield Police Superintendent Lawrence E. Akers, a Police Academy classmate also celebrating this 40-year milestone, presented Captain Geier with a plaque from the Springfield Supervisors Association. Mayor Domenic J. Sarno read a proclamation, marking March 3rd, 2026, Captain Edward Geier day in the city of Springfield.
After joining the Springfield Police Department, Geier was promoted to Sergeant in 1992, Lieutenant in 1996 and Captain in 2021.
Geier has served in just about every possible assignment in the Springfield Police Department during his four-decade career. He was also a President of the Springfield Police Supervisor’s Association and a Springfield Police Department Public Information Officer.
Captain Geier received numerous departmental commendations throughout his career from delivering a baby to helping to end a hostage situation and was instrumental in launching the Springfield Police Body-Worn Camera Program.
