SPD Detective Bureau Investigation Leads to Arrest of Shooting Suspect
Springfield, Mass. — On Thursday January 29th at approximately 11:50 a.m., members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU), FIU Warrant Apprehension Unit, Massachusetts State Police VFAS, Hampden County Sheriff's Department and United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested 19-year-old Jahmir Appoletio on the 600 block of State Street for two outstanding warrants.
On July 2nd, 2025, around 11:45 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Marion Street and 0-100 block of McKnight Street for two ShotSpotter Activations. Officers located evidence and damage to a vehicle on Marion Street. Officers also located damage to a home on the 0-100 block of Girard Avenue from gunfire.
Springfield Police Detectives under the direction of Captain Trent Duda began investigating. Detectives recovered a suspect vehicle and later applied for and were granted an arrest warrant for Appoletio in connection with the shooting.
Appoletio was located and placed under arrest on Thursday.
19-year-old Jahmir Appoletio of Springfield is charged with:
- Arrest Warrant
- Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
- Possession of a Firearm without an FID Card
- Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
- Malicious Destruction of Property Less than $1200 (Two Counts) - Arrest Warrant
- Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
